Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it is an island to the west of Montreal however it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island, although this isn't the truth. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. She initially wanted to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners were no longer able to dance along with her. The article she wrote about her experience revealed written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. After I became too big for my male friends, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. In the case of the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who encouraged her to go in this direction. It was her teacher who suggested she audition as Anne for their school's annual production. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. Her career spans 20 years and she's performed in more than 60 shows including big screen productions as well as smaller screens. Her most recognizable role was the one of Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 and was only seen at times.
